If you have the Pro version, as I do, the library has even more to choose from. In my design, I chose a radial gradient to match my circular design.Īutodesk Sketchbook has a nice variety of brushes. Initially the gradient starts you off with a grey tone, you can change the start colour and the end colour, change the depth of the gradient as well as the direction. When I add in my colour, I like to use a gradient fill. You can also turn off the visibility of the line art layer to get an idea of how your design is developing. If you have the blend mode turned on, your grey toned texture will show up on the screen in colour as you paint. The colour layer lies at the very top of all the layers so you will only see the effects of the texture when you choose a blend mode for that colour layer. After I have a sections selected, I will move to the layer I want to work on, either colour fill or texture fill and paint there.

The warmer/cooler thing not only makes your colours look richer it happens to be something right out of your physics books.has something to do with chromatic opposites.I use the selection tool, working on my line art layer, to choose each section I want to fill. in other words, Here I will make the green in the shadows not only darker but bluer/cooler and the green in the hi-lights lighter and more yellow/warmer. Tip: When deciding on your shadow and hi-light colours make the colour temperature of your shadows the opposite of your hi-lights. With that done I want to establish the form by adding shadow and eventually hi-lights. The colours I pick would be what I would guess to be a mid tone for that object. If there were more characters, clothes or other parts to this drawing I would lay a colour in for each major object. I do this because I don't what to lose the line work to early.

This layer lies below the line drawing that has just been finished. For this I dump my rough sketch layer and replace it with this colour layer. When the line drawing is at a point where I feel I have something to work with I move on to dead colouring which is simply laying in the base colour.
